The large two-and-a-half-story brick residence at 1201 Washington Street was built in 1903
- It has elements of colonial, Romanesque, and Queen Anne stylings
- A steep gabled roof is intersected at the right by a projecting, hipped-roofed bay.
- A central dormer establishes the symmetry of the facade, which displays a central entrance and large stone-linteled windows on the ground floor and arched windows on the second.
- A one-story bay window is seen at the right side of the house, and tall chimney stacks are seen at the right rear of the structure.
- Some mystery as to who was responsible for building this property.
- The Falk brothers, Nathan and Sigmund acquired the property in 1892.
- The Assessor estimates build date at 1903 and it is not on earlier Sanborn maps (prior to 1903).
- Nathan died in 1903 and the property was sold in 1903.
- 1903 Nathan & Rosa Falk along with Sigmund & Carrie N Falk convey the property to Julia A Mutch.
- The Fort Street Historic District survey claims it was built by a George Mutch.
- But, It seems that the Falks built it, The arches above the windows are superior construction and it is a brick building. This would have been quite expensive to build.
- Idaho Statesman states it’s only Nathan & Rosa selling the parcel to Julia. It is unlikely that Nathan ever lived at the residence as he had a home on Warm Springs. Sigmund ran Falk Brothers along with Nathan and would likely have had a grand house (Warm Springs or perhaps Grove).
- Julia Mutch who owned it in 1903 was a married woman who later attended nursing school at St. Lukes. She did not seem to be a person of means,
- 1906- Hannah M Driscoll is conveyed the property by Julia A Mutch and husband, according to the index. The deed shows the grantors as “Julia A Mutch and George M Mutch, her husband”. This is unusual language for the time. It is very clear that Julia is the seller and Hannah is the buyer!
- 1910 &1920 Fed Census shows John and Hannah Driscoll living at 1201. He is approx. 29 in 1910.
