In 2011 Qwest was bought by Century Link, changing the building name to Century Link Arena.
Qwest arena (formerly the Bank of America Center) is a multi-purpose arena, located in Downtown Boise that opened in 1997. It was built for $50 million. Its address is 233 S. Capitol Blvd. Qwest arena has a contemporary style. Qwest has a contemporary style because it has odd sized windows which are by the entry way, it has little ornamentation, and it has an unusual mixture of wall materials. It holds 5,300 fans for hockey and basketball, 5,732 for end-stage concerts, 6,400 for boxing and up to 6,800 for center staged concerts. It contains 4,508 permanent seats.
The arena features 39 corporate suites, 1,100 Club Premier Seats, standing room space for 200 people. Also Qwest Arena has the Zone restaurant and bar overlooking the arena, as well as a Blimpie franchise among 9 concession stands.
The arena is physically connected to the Grove Hotel at the corner of Front Street and Capitol Boulevard. The main entrance is from the Grove Plaza. The arena has been home to the Idaho Steelheads ECHL hockey teams since 1997, the home of the Idaho Stampede D-League basketball team since 2001, and the home to the Boise Burn arena football team from 2007-2009. Qwest Arena hosted the 2006 CBA All-Star game (while the Idaho Stampede was still part of the CBA) and the 2007 ECHL All-Star game.
Other events hosted in the facility include concerts, trade shows, conventions, ice shows, and various other sporting events. Qwest Arena host very successful teams. The Idaho Stampede has 3 division titles, and 1 championship. The Boise Burn made it to the second round in their playoff berth in 2009. The most successful team that Qwest Arena host is the Idaho Steelheads. They have 1 regular season title, 1 division championship, 3 conference championships, and 2 Kelly Cup Championships. Also, in this past 2009-2010 season, the Steelheads lost in the Kelly Cup Finals (the series was 4-1) to the Cincinnati Cyclones.
